Rivet Education believes high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) and curriculum-based professional learning (CBPL) lead to strong teaching and learning. We envision a future where educators, districts, states, and parents work together to empower educators to use HQIM effectively and equitably so that students get the educational opportunities they want and deserve.
To achieve this vision, Rivet provides simple and practical guidance, tools, and connections to ensure that every teacher can deliver outstanding instruction that leads to improved student outcomes.
OUR HISTORY
In 2012, Louisiana’s students ranked near the bottom of the country in terms of academic achievement, and Louisiana’s education leaders knew something needed to change. Enter Louisiana Believes, a multi-year strategy centered around four state priorities: (1) increased access to quality early childhood education (2) academic alignment in every school and classroom (3) stronger teacher and leader preparation, and (4) clear pathways to college or a career. Across its priorities, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) was hyper-focused on making the right choice, the easy choice.
Rivet’s cofounders Annie Morrison and Litsy Witkowski played an integral role in implementing Louisiana Believes, bringing coherence to education efforts across the state. Within just a few years, the state saw significant increases in student achievement, and states and fellow education leaders across the country began to take notice and wonder, “Can we do this too?”
As more states began to notice the work in Louisiana, Rivet’s co-founders realized that they could help state leaders pull several levers to improve the quality of instruction in classrooms and impact student outcomes, especially for students of color. Thus, Rivet Education was born.
