How are partners selected for the PL Partner Guide?
Who we are
There is no such thing as a typical learner. Our mission is to end the long-standing pattern of disproportionate student outcomes by shifting the paradigm of “typical teaching.” We work in partnership with schools and systems to elevate the mindsets and skills of educators to ensure that all students – especially those who have been most marginalized by race, language, and neurodivergence – can access and engage in grade-level learning. Every lesson. Every day.

How we address equity
Fundamental to Blue Engine is the value of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. We believe in the infinite potential of all human beings and an education system that should provide equal opportunity for all to seize that potential. We directly support educators in building conscious mindsets through targeted activities, like learner profiles and classroom vision-setting, that help foster deep understanding of students as holistic individuals. We directly support leaders in developing equitable and individualized learning experiences for students by redesigning programming and policies to dismantle systemic barriers so that each and every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.
Why is this important?
How we build district capacity
Blue Engine partners with school districts over an extended period to implement our school-based support model, designed to integrate high-quality instructional materials (HQIM)-aligned co-teaching practices district-wide. Our approach leverages teacher leaders through intensive coaching and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure consistent adoption and spread of these practices across schools. We collaborate closely with district and school leaders through joint observations, vision-setting, and quarterly goal-setting to internalize and sustain these practices beyond our partnership. As a result, Blue Engine classrooms can effectively support diverse learners while maintaining the rigor of HQIM, ensuring long-term success and scalability within the district.

How we provide curriculum-aligned PL

Workshops

At Blue Engine, our approach to workshops is deeply aligned with our mission to ensure that all students, regardless of their background or learning differences, can access and engage in grade-level learning. We design our workshops to be highly interactive, practical, and directly connected to the implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) in the classroom. Each workshop is customized to meet the unique needs of your educators and district goals. We begin by grounding our sessions in the realities of your classrooms, ensuring that the content is relevant and immediately applicable. Our workshops are not one-size-fits-all; instead, we focus on elevating the mindsets and skills necessary to shift the paradigm of “typical teaching,” so that every student is included in rigorous learning experiences. Our facilitators are experienced educators who understand the challenges of the classroom and are committed to creating a collaborative learning environment. Throughout the workshops, we emphasize practical strategies that teachers can implement immediately, with ongoing support to ensure these practices are sustained. By the end of our workshops, educators will not only have a deeper understanding of HQIM but also the tools and confidence to apply these materials in ways that make grade-level learning accessible to every student, every day.

Coaching

At Blue Engine, our coaching approach is rooted in the belief that every student deserves access to grade-level learning, regardless of their background or learning differences. To achieve this, we provide targeted coaching support to teachers and instructional coaches, helping them implement high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) in a way that is inclusive and effective for all students. Our coaching is structured around Blue Engine’s rubric for Inclusive Teaching (when coaching teachers directly) or our Instructional Coaching rubric (when coaching instructional coaches/leaders directly, which is designed to elevate both the mindsets and instructional practices necessary to shift the paradigm of “typical teaching.” We engage in coaching cycles that are both comprehensive and adaptive, ensuring that educators receive the support they need to succeed. Each coaching cycle includes key components such as co-planning, classroom observations, feedback, and practice, all aligned to a monthly development cycle. This cyclical approach allows us to build on progress continuously, addressing specific needs as they arise and ensuring that educators can refine their practices in real-time. We work alongside your educators to foster an environment of continuous improvement, where every interaction is an opportunity to strengthen their ability to deliver rigorous, grade-level content. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that these transformative teaching practices are sustainable, allowing your district to maintain high standards of instruction long after our partnership has concluded. By focusing on practical, actionable strategies within the framework of our coaching cycles, we empower educators to create classrooms where every student is engaged and thriving in grade-level learning, every day. Our pathways for coaching teachers include: Pathway 1 – Leading Differentiated Small Groups Pathway 2 – Optimizing Collaborative Planning Time Pathway 3 – Grade Level Access for All Students Pathway 4 – Leveraging Effective Co-Teaching Models Pathway 5 – Establishing an Environment of Inclusion Our Pathways for coaching instructional leaders include: 1. Goal-Centered Coaching 2. Diagnosing Barriers & Planning Action Steps 3. Implementing Co-Planning Structures 4. High-Impact Coaching Conversations 5. Designing & Facilitating Professional Development

PLCs

At Blue Engine, our approach to Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), which we refer to as Communities of Practice (CPs), is deeply aligned with our mission to ensure that all students, particularly those who have been most marginalized, can access and engage in grade-level learning. We design our CPs as cohort-based learning series that bring together teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders to collaboratively enhance their instructional practices. These communities are built around the implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) and are structured to support educators in shifting the paradigm of “typical teaching” to better serve diverse learners. Each CP series typically spans 12 weeks and includes regular sessions where participants engage in deep discussions, share insights, and work through practical challenges related to HQIM. Our sessions are supplemented by data stepbacks, which allow participants to analyze student outcomes and refine their instructional strategies in real-time. What makes our approach particularly impactful is its integration with individualized coaching cycles. By coupling our CPs with ongoing, targeted coaching, we ensure that the learning and strategies developed within the community are immediately applied and adapted in the classroom. We measure the success of our CPs through various means, including participation surveys, satisfaction ratings, and the analysis of rubric ratings to ensure that the practices are not only adopted but also sustained across classrooms. Our ultimate goal is to empower educators with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to create classrooms where every student can thrive in grade-level learning, every day.

Consultations

Based on the information from the spreadsheet, here’s a tailored response to the question, ‘How do you approach consultations?’ using the term ‘Enabling Conditions’ (EC) and integrating Blue Engine’s mission and focus on HQIM: At Blue Engine, our approach to consultations, which we refer to as Enabling Conditions (EC), is designed to create the foundational environment necessary for successful implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) across schools and districts. Our mission is to ensure that every student, particularly those who have been historically marginalized, can engage in and benefit from grade-level learning. Our EC consultations are a critical component of this mission, as they allow us to work closely with district and school leaders to assess and build the necessary conditions for sustainable success. We begin by conducting a thorough assessment that includes surveys, interviews, focus groups, and school walkthroughs. This comprehensive approach helps us understand the unique needs and contexts of your district, enabling us to tailor our support effectively. These consultations are most impactful at the start of a multi-year partnership, as they help establish a strong foundation for the work ahead. By identifying strengths and areas for growth, we collaborate with your leadership to co-create a roadmap that ensures the successful adoption and integration of HQIM into daily teaching practices. Our ultimate goal with EC consultations is to equip your district with the knowledge, strategies, and structures necessary to sustain high-quality, inclusive instructional practices long after our partnership has concluded. By focusing on enabling conditions, we help create an environment where every student can thrive in rigorous, grade-level learning every day.
