How we address equity
BSCS is committed to science learning that is inclusive, meaningful, and advances social and environmental justice. Two equity goals drive our current work: to include and elevate knowledge, experience, and voices from marginalized communities; and to provide equitable and meaningful opportunities for students from marginalized communities to learn science. Our programs develop teachers who can identify potential barriers to learning, capable of adapting our materials to be accessible to all students, and who respect the variety of ways in which students engage in sense-making and express their ideas.
Why is this important?
How we build district capacity
BSCS works with local leaders to develop internal capacity to support the effective use of OpenSciEd. These leaders continue to support teacher learning long after the professional learning program has ended. Our practice is to develop sustained relationships with the teachers and leaders we work with to develop productive organizational partnerships. These relationships are continually fostered and supported through interactions at national and regional conferences and invitations to future program offerings.
