How we address equity
Equity is an attribute of IM’s PL services in the design of materials and the recruitment and training of facilitators. Our materials meet educators where they are and create opportunities for collaboration, reflection, and trying on new practices. IM Certified facilitators demonstrate a commitment to and skills for enacting equitable instruction.
Equity is an outcome of IM’s PL through opportunities to reflect on beliefs and experience tools for providing access to problem-based instruction for all learners. Some of the tools highlighted are Universal Design for Learning, Math Language Routines, and using launches and contexts to enact culturally responsive teaching practices.
Why is this important?
How we build district capacity
IM offers several unique opportunities. We provide professional learning workshops at scale across the US, delivered by certified, trained expert facilitators, to scale access to expertise in problem-based, standards-aligned math instruction. In addition, we support local leaders to facilitate collaborative planning and study of student work which is aligned both with structures and routines in the curriculum and in the PL workshops. Both the curriculum and the PL materials are designed to be educative for those implementing them.
