Sample scopes of work
What are these scopes?
How we address equity
We design our professional learning to echo the instructional practices in our award-winning K-12 curricula, helping educators enhance information processing, value each student’s voice, propel a culture of inclusion, and facilitate student agency. We collaborate with state, district, and school leadership to scale practices that reduce barriers to grade-level content and leverage the formative assessment practices embedded in our HQIM to meet the needs of diverse learners. We use resources from pedagogical content area thought leaders, such as Dr. Robert Berry, Dr. Ernest Morrell, and Jim Cummins to guide our work with instructional practices that promote equity.
Why is this important?
How we build district capacity
To build local capacity, we recommend establishing Learning Labs at the start of a professional learning engagement because this structure accelerates use of the curriculum. Learning Lab Teachers (LLTs) serve as first implementers for fellow educators. LLTs rapidly implement new strategies, share student work, and open their classrooms to peer educators who participate in non-evaluative observation and reflection. We work closely with instructional coaches and district leadership to enhance capacity and scale effective implementation of our HQIM.
Why is this important?
How we provide curriculum-aligned PL

Workshops

We have a scope and sequence of workshops for educators using our curriculum. We use consultative conversations with state, district, and school partners to tailor workshop content and experiences (e.g., making connections to district/school priorities; focusing on specific hot topics).

Coaching

Coaching is the heart of professional learning. In the form of job-embedded support for teachers, we offer targeted in-classroom modeling, co-teaching, informal observation with feedback, and formative assessment of student work. Our leadership coaching involves Focus Visits that inform essential feedback for teachers and norm expectations for implementing with integrity.

PLCs

In PLCs, we use rubrics, protocols, and co-constructed norms to enhance collective teacher efficacy. We leverage collaboration to dig more deeply into the curriculum and rehearse instructional practices in service of shared student learning outcomes. We recommend Learning Labs where teachers open their classroom to peer intervisitation to complement PLCs.

Consultations

We consult with state/district/school stakeholders prior to and throughout a professional learning engagement. Initial collaboration focuses on identifying the student learning experiences and outcomes our partners are working to achieve. We then meet regularly and engage in Focus Visits using evidence of student learning to anchor reflection on professional learning.
