What is a high quality curriculum?
This partner's approach and services
How we address equity
At Teaching Matters we envision a nation where every student has equitable access to excellent teaching. Our mission is to close the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system for underserved and historically marginalized children. We are committed to pursuing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all our work. By developing our own critical consciousness and examining and confronting our biases, we demonstrate our commitment to pursuing an equitable and inclusive organization and building those values and skills in our team, practices, and policies. Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-SE) anchors all of our professional development and partnerships with districts and schools.
Why is this important?
How we build district capacity
Highly successful curriculum adoption is characterized by three features: Compelling vision, process clarity, and trusting partnerships among stakeholders.
We believe in structured collaboration at all levels of the system, including central leadership, district leadership, and school-based teams. District level collaboration will include district level planning in order to differentiate support based on each school’s strengths and areas of growth. Throughout the partnership, we will also support district level data analysis and reflection in order to monitor progress of curriculum adoption and its impact on teacher practice and student learning. Additionally, we will offer professional learning sessions that serve to socialize high expectations, review feedback, reinforce a common language of instruction, review data and student work products, and set collaborative next steps to achieve shared goals.
